Hydrogen is an energy carrier. It can be produced from water using electricity (electrolysis) and then used in a range of ways—such as feeding a fuel cell to generate electricity, or being introduced in controlled quantities into an engine intake stream in “hydrogen-assist” applications (vehicle dependent).
